Pathology?

A

Ethanaol/other –> increased mitcochondrial oxidation of fatty acids, increased synths and delivery of FA and decreased removal from hepatocytes –> accumulation of fat intracellularly
REVERSIBLE

A

Late hepatomegaly most common

A

FBC
LFT - Increased AST & ALT, ALT:AST ratio > 1 in alcohol related
Lipid profile - hyperlipidaemia
USS - fatty liver visualised

Management?

A

Abstinence of alcohol/relieving cause will reverse liver damage
