A

What is the inferior oesophageal sphincter?

A

Located between oesophagus and stomach. In non-eating state, the lumen of the oesophagus is collapsed. When the stomach is full, entry into it is closed by this sphincter.

What is the pyloric sphincter?

A

Between the pylorus and the duodenum. Controls exit of food and gastric acid from stomach.

What is the greater omentum?

A

Hangs down from the greater curvature of the stomach - draping over the transverse colon and folding back on itself to reach the posterior abdominal wall. Contains lymph nodes, helping to combat infection.
