What are the doses of Amlodipine?

A

Child 1 month-11 years: 100-200micrograms/kg initially increased if necessary to 400micrograms/kg once daily
Child 12-17 years: 5mg once daily, then increased if necessary up to 10mg once daily, adjusted at intervals of 1-2 weeks.

How does Amlodipine work?

A

Calcium-channel blocker: interfere with inward displacement of calcium ions through slow channels of the active cell membrane, they influence the myocardial cells, the cells within the SNS and the cells vascular muscle - reduces myocardial contractility, formation and prognation of electrical impulses within the heart may be depressed , coronary or systemic vascular tone may be diminished.
