What advice should be given about mechanical cleaning?

Answer 1

• Denture cleaning pastes can be used with toothbrush
• Soap and water is fine

–> Brush after meals & before going to bed (soak in water) over basin full of water

• Over brushing with harsh brushes can cause damage to base so be careful

What advice should be given about chemical cleaning?

Answer 2

1. Effervescent peroxides
   - -> Rapid action
   - -> Careful not too hot water
   - -> Over soaking can lead to bleaching (max 15mins acrylic and metal)
2. Alkaline hypochlorites
   - -> V good at cleaning
   - -> Over soaking can lead to bleaching (20mins acrylic)
   - -> Corrosion of metal if prolonged soaking (10mins max recommended and then rinse/ soak in cold water)
3. Acids
4. Disinfectants
5. Enzymes
