Chapter 2 - Cells Flashcards
What are the parts in an animal cell
Cell membrane
Nucleus
Cytoplasm
What is the cell membrane
The cell membrane is a skin around the cell that protects the cell and controls what goes in and out of the cell
What is the nucleus
The nucleus acts as the control centre of the cell. It contains DNA. It controls the type of chemicals made in the cells
What is the cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is a watery substance which contains many dissolved substances. It is where the chemical reactions necessary for life take place
What are the 3 other parts of a plant cell
Cell wall
Chloroplast
Vacuole
What is the cell wall
The cell wall gives shape and support
What are chloroplasts
Chloroplasts hold chlorophyll, the green colour that plants use to make their food
What is the vacuole
The vacuole is a space in the cytoplasm stores things and gives support
What are the magnifications of the 3 objective lenses
Low power = X4
Medium power = X10
High power = X40
What is the eyepiece lens
It magnifies the object by 10
What is the nose piece
It holds the objective lenses
What are the objective lenses
They magnify the objects by different numbers
What is the coarse focus wheel
It brings the object into rough focus
What is the fine focus wheel
It brings the object into sharp focus
