Ecology Flashcards
definition
The study of living things and how thay interact with their enviroment
What’s an ecosystem?
A community of living organisms interacting with one another and their non-living enviroment within a particular área.
What’s the biosphere?
It’s that part of the planet where life can exists.

What’s a habitat?
It’s the particular place within the ecosystem where an organism lives and to witch it is adapted.
What’s a population?
All the members of the same species living in an área.
What’s a community?
All the different populations in an area.
What’s enviromental factors may affect an organism?
Abiotic
Biotic
Climatic
Edaphic
What are Abiotic factors?
Non-living factors
- Temperature
- pH
- Light intensity
What are Biotic factors?
Living factors
- plants for food and shelter
- predators
- prey
- parasites and pathogens
- decomposers
- competitors
- pollinators
What are Climatic factors?
Weather conditions
- Temperature
- Rainfall
- Humidity
- Light intensity
What are Edaphic factors?
From the soil
- soil type
- soil pH
- soil water
- air
- mineral content
- humus
What’s meant as the energy flow in an ecosystem?
Is the path of energy transfer fro one organism to the next in an ecosystem due to feeding.
What’s a Food chain?
It is a flow diagram that shows how food/ebergy is passed through a series of organisms in a community.
Each organism feeds on the one before.
It ends when there is not enough food for another organism.
