6) Air Traffic Services Flashcards
(37 cards)
Class A air traffic airspace consists of:
Only IFR in class A All flights subject to ATC clearance and are separated from eachother
Class B air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
All dlights subject to ATC clearance and seperated from eachother
Class C air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
All flights subject to ATC clearance
IFR seperated from all other flights
VFR seperated from IFR and recieve traffic info on other VFR +avoidance advice on request
Class D air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
All subject to ATC clearance
IFR separated from IFR and given info on VFR
VFR recieve air traffic info on all other flights
Traffic avoidence given when requested by pilot
Class E air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
IFR require ATC clearance
IFR separated from IFR
All flights recieve traffic info as appropriate
Class F air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
IFR recieve procedural or deconfliction service
All flights recieve basic or traffic service on request
Class G air traffic airspace consists of:
IFR and VFR
All flights may recieve a service outside of controlled airspace if requested
What is an ATSU?
Air traffic service unit
What services does an Area Control Centre (ACC) seevice provide?
- air traffic control to IFR flights operating on airways
- flight information (FIS) and alerting services
- distress and diversion service
Who shares the total air traffic control responsibility?
Aerodrome control and approach control
What is the function of the ‘tower’?
To control aircraft on the runways and those in or joining the circuit. (In smaller aerodromes they will also be in charge of aircraft on the manoeuvring area)
What is the function of ‘ground’ for aerodrome control?
They are responsible for aircraft on the manoeuvring area. In smaller aerodromes this will be the towers responsibility
Who is in charge of aerodrome control?
The tower and the ground
What is approach control?
It is responsible for traffic leaving the circuit, joining VFR or IFR or operating in the vacinity of the aerodrome
What is the FIS?
Flight information service
What does the flight information service do?
It is an information service that is used at aerodromes without ATC. It can give instructions to aircraft on the ground but is an information only service in the air.
What is the air/ground communication service? (AGCS)
It is a RADIO service for aerodromes without ATC or FIS.
What is the safetycom frequency?
135.475
And can only be used 2000ft above aerodrome level
What is the lower airspace radar service? (LARS)
They are a service used in unregulated airspace whereby ATSUs may provide traffuc or deconfliction service on request within 30nm of each unit
What services are available outside of controlled airspace?
Basic service
Traffic service
Deconfliction service
Procedural service
What service should be requested from a unit with the callsign “information”?
Basic
This is a FISO unit
If you make an agreement with an ATSU, what does this mean?
You must follow instructions given even when in uncontrolled airspace, unless it is undafe to do so
What is the “basic service”?
They give general information to IFR and VFR but dont have to give traffic information. They may identify the aircraft but do not have to tell the pilot. The pilot remains responsible for collision avoidance.
What is the traffic service?
A radar based ATS tower where they provide basic service and radar traffic info to IFR and VFR. Collision avoidance is still the pilots responsibility
