A
- way in which we form impressions
- often fist impressions are established by specific characteristics of the person

A
- form an overall consistent impression (gestalt approach) rather than a combination of individual traits
- holistic

A
- traits are not simplistically combined
- holistic traits are originally formed
- seek to form consistent impressions
- central traits have a greater influence on the impression than peripheral traits

A
- impression formation is an evaluative process
- a subject value is assigned to each trait observed

- summative
- averaging
