6 markers required practicals Flashcards
(2 cards)
Reaction time
-hold ruler between someone’s index finger and thumb, lined up at the 0cm mark
-drop ruler without warning, record distance dropped befoer caught
-reaction time can then be calculated through newtons equation of motion
-carry out repeats, however identify that the person being tested will get better over time
-add an independant varaibel, e.g. a stimulant, for example coffee or an energy drink, to see if it improves reaction time
Quadrats
-use a random number generator to choose grid positons in the area being tested.
-place 1m squared quadrat over
-ideally sample 10% of whole area, to give an accuate estimate
-calculate the mean number per m squared, then multiply by the total area to give an estimate of the total population
-combine quadrat with a transect , record number per m squaured
-can have abiotic and biotic factors involved
