- Bread/cereals (fortified) 
- Potatoes 
- Oats 
HAEM SOURSES = 
- Eggs 
- Offal 
- Meat

Excess of Iron:

A
  • Iron is stored as FERRITIN
  • Too much can cause SIDEROSIS (deposition of iron in the lung)
  • Occurs in africa from cooking pots

Deficiency of Iron:

A
  • Brittle nails
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness due to less haemoglobin to transport oxygen
  • Pale skin
  • IRON IS STORE IN LIVER/ SPLEEN/ BONE MARROW
  • Iron deficiency anaemia
  • Insufficient iron in blood stream = body uses bone marrow reserves
  • When bone marrow reserves are low RBC’s do not form properly
