2
Q

why do you need an alternating current?

A

need a change in magnetic field to induce a potential difference

3
Q

how does a transformer work? 5

A
As current flows through primary coil
generates a change in magnetic field
magnetic field transmitted along iron core
passes through secondary coil
inducing a potential difference

Q

why doesn’t a direct current work?

A

no induction in secondary coil because you need a changing field which is why you need an alternating current
