Tone
The writer/speakers attitude toward his readers and/or subject.
Mood
The feeling/atmosphere of the poem.
Stanza
A section of poem named for the number of lines it contains.
Simile
A comparison using like/as.
Metaphor
A comparison NOT using like/as.
Personification
Giving non human objects human characteristics.
Hyperbole
A large exaggeration.
Alliteration
When two or more words in the same line of poetry begin with the same consonant sound.
Onomatopoeia
A word that imitates the sound of the object/action it refers to.
Anaphora
When two or more lines of poetry begin with the same word/words.
Repitition
The repeating of a word/phrase using rhythmic effect.
Internal Rhyme
When two or more rhyming words appear inside on line of poetry.
Slant Rhyme
A type of rhyme in which vowel sounds/words are not identical.
Rhyming Couplet
A pair of lines that rhyme.
Rhyme Scheme
The pattern of rhyme a poem follows
