Q

Give the diagnostic criteria for generalized anxiety disorder.

A

•Chronic state of worry that has persisted for more than 6 months
• Is characterized by worrying about “most things on most days”
•At least three somatic complaints:
- Sleep changes
- Weight changes
- Irritability
- Impaired concentration

The caveats include that this (1) must not be due to another medical disorder or medication and (2) has to be out of proportion to the actual things worried about –meaning that if you worry about putting food on the table for your kids because you’re poor, that’s not GAD.
