Grounding Requirements - Section 10 Flashcards

1
Q

What is the difference between a grounding conductor and a grounded conductor.

A

A grounding conductor is the conductive path between a service box and a grounding electrode. A grounded conductor is an identified/neutral conductor.

Q

Could one ground gas piping on the street side of a single dwelling gas line?

A

No, because the pipe would corrode with a large current on it.

Q

Why would one bond a gas and water pipe to a grounding system?

A

So that accidental current imposed on the piping has a path of low impedance and does not cause damage to people or property.

Q

Should all metal enclosures be bonded?

A

Yes except:

  • Small runs
    • (1.5m) for protection of conductors.
    • (7.5m) where the piping is unlikely to touch ground.
