6.1 Speed Flashcards
What is speed and state its SI units
Speed is the rate of change of distance in respect to time. Its SI unit is km/hr or m/s.
What is rate?
Speed is notated as the distance over time as in km/hr or m/s whereas rate is a description of change over time.
What is the formula for speed?
Speed = Distance/Time
What is the formula for distance?
Distance = Speed x Time
What is the formula for time?
Time = Distance/Speed
What is the formula for average velocity or average speed?
Average Speed/Velocity = Total Distance/Total Time
What is instantaneous speed?
Instantaneous speed is referred to as the speed or velocity at that exact moment of time.
Describe the two types of motion.
Motion -
1. Balanced Forces - uniform motion with steady or constant speed
2. Unbalanced forces - non-uniform motion with a change in speed
