PMMA Disadvantages

A
  1. high curing heat
  2. polymerization shrinkage
  3. residual monomer
  4. working time
  5. odor

“Imagine your mama curling her hair in the afternoon. Her hair is shrinking into curls, causing monomers of hair and odor to drift into the room. It takes her a long time.”

Q

Pull-down technique

A
  1. take an alginate impression and make a cast before tooth prep
  2. Use a vacuum former over the cast with a 0.5 mm square thermoplastic sheet
  3. place two vent holes over the non-functional cusps
  4. put vaseline over teeth
  5. put liquid into retainer and have patient bite down
  6. during curing, do and in-and-out motion to avoid locking
  7. check setting of material
  8. mark interproximal contact of untrimmed provisional
  9. trim using a lab handpiece
  10. mark finish line
  11. open contact
  12. open margin
  13. check occlusion with and without crown
  14. add anatomic groove detail
  15. polish
