  1. Pain
  2. Paresthesia (tingling)
  3. Pulselessness
  4. Paralysis ( loss of muscle function)
  5. Pallor (pale)
  6. Poikliotherma (inability to regulate core body temp)

Arterial Ulcers

A
  • Lower leg affected
  • Secondary to PVD, DM
  • Pallor and pain with leg elevation
  • Ulcers are distal to the loss of blood supply
  • Pale, yellow or gray wound base
  • Skin tight and shiny with hair loss
  • Regular wound margins
  • Keep legs dependent
  • Decreased or absent peripheral pulses

A
  • Ankles to knee affected
  • Secondary to obesity, age, pregnancy, DVT
  • Painless
  • Affects medial and lateral aspect of the malleolus
  • Ruddy or red wound base
  • Irregular wound margins
  • Elevate legs
  • Presence of peripheral pluses

Metabolic Syndrome X

A

a group of risk factors that increase the risk for heart disease and other health problems such as diabetes and stroke. People with metabolic syndrome are twice as likely to develop heart disease and five times as likely to develop DM.

  • Increase B/P 135/85 or higher
  • Increase fat around the waist ( over 35 inches female, over 40 inches male)
  • Increase glucose level
  • High triglycerides levels
  • Decreased HDL or increased LDL
