Blockage of:

Glands of moll - sweat

Glands of zeis - sebum

These open directly onto lash follicle and get blocked = stye

A

not infected:

  • hot compress (open up pore)
  • baby shampoo wash

Infected:
-add fusidic acid (antibioticc drops)

What is a pinguecula?

A
  • degenerative vascular yellow grade nodule on the conjunctiva either side of iris (scarring) caused by increased sun exposure
  • can get inflamed
  • can give steroids
  • v. rarely can invade cornea - need surgery

what is Lagophthalmus

A

Lagophthalmos is defined as the inability to close the eyelids completely. Blinking covers the eye with a thin layer of tear fluid, thereby promoting a moist environment necessary for the cells of the exterior part of the eye.

What is acute dacrocystitis

A

  • if baby give lacrimal duct massage
  • if acute due to cellulitis - abiotic
  • if chronic - lacrimal sac distends/discharges into eye and duct may become dilated and blocked
  • if permenently blocked dactocytorhinostomy - rencanalation of duct
