CRP hs Flashcards
What does CRP stand for?
C Reactive Protein
What is CRP?
C Reactive Protein is a protein found in blood plasma that is involved in the inflammatory response cycle.
When do CRP level rise and why?
Within 2 hours of inflammation, in direct response to Interleukin-6, which is secreted by T cells and macrophages during infection/trauma.
What does CRP do?
C reactive Protein binds with chemicals expressed on the surface of dead OR dying cells as part of a process to clean those chemicals up.
Where is CRP made?
CRP is synthesized in the liver
What interferes with CRP production?
Very little interferes with CRP production beyond actual liver failure, which is why many consider it to be such a dependable test for inflammation.
What is the hs-CRP?
The high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein is a test for even LOW levels of CRP, as low levels may be a sign of low levels of inflammation in the blood.
What is cellular Apoptosis?
Cell apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is a form of cell death that is generally triggered by normal, healthy processes in the body.
What is cellular Necrosis?
Cell Necrosis is the premature death of cells and living tissue caused by factors external to the cell or tissue, such as infection, toxins, or trauma.
