TC3 Memorization Flashcards
Children; Grade I; intraventricular; giant clusters of tumor cells; no mitosis, necrosis, atypia; associated with tuberous sclerosis
Giant Cell Astrocytoma
Age?; Grade II; cells w/bean-shaped nuclei in brain parenchyma; no mitotic figures; MRI w/abnormal flair signal
Diffuse Astrocytoma
Usually MCA distribution; often multiple ring-enhancing lesions; can mimic meningiomas
Metastatic Carcinoma
Children and young adults: Grade I, III; associated w/epilepsy; temporal lobe; abnormal ganglion and glial cells; eosinophilic granular bodies
Ganglioma
Children; Grade IV; pineal region; KB mutation = “trilateral retinoblastoma;” small round blue tumor cells + Homer-Wright Rosettes
Pineoblastoma
Adults (30’s-50’s); Grade III; frequent mitotic figures; no necrosis or vascular proliferation; MRI shows “blush” enhancement
Anaplastic Astrocytoma
All ages; grade II-III; intraventricular; perivascular “pseudorosettes”
Ependymoma
Grade I; cerebellar tumor; clear “foamy” tumor cells + lots of small capillaries; 30% associated w/von Hippel Lindau
Hemangioblastoma
Adolescents; Grade II; associated with epilepsy; often in superficial temporal lobe; atypical cells w/cytoplasmic fat
Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma
Children; Grade I; suprasellar tumor; often cystic on MRI; often calcified on CT; stellate epithelium, “wet” keratin, dystrophic calcification
Craniopharyngioma
Adults (50’s-70’s); Grade IV; mitotic figures; necrosis; microvascular proliferation;
Glioblastoma
Child; Grade I; bipolar “hair-like” tumor cells; Rosenthal fibers; cerebellum, hypothalamus, thalamus
Pilocytic Astrocytoma
Multifocal enhancing white-matter tumor; perivascular sheets of small round blue cells; associated w/EBV, AIDS
Primary CNS Lymphoma
Children; Grade IV; cerebellum (vermis) tumor; MYC mutation–> bad prognosis; small blue round tumor cells + Homer-Wright Rosettes
Medulloblastoma
Adolescents; sellar, pineal discrete tumors; sheets of primitive cells w/clear cytoplasm & a background of benign lymphocytes; these “melt away” with radiotherapy
Germinoma
