Q

How can DNA chains be broken?

A

hydrogen bonds are 10x weaker than covalent so that hydrogen bonds can be broken without breaking the back bone

Q

What is done in cell division?

A
  • hydrogen bonds of the DNA double helix break and the strands unravel
  • the cell contrains a mixture of separate nucleotide molecules
  • these move in and pair up with the newcly-exposed bases
  • this results in two double helix molecule, each exactly the same as the original one
  • this is replication

Q

How is the information used?

A
  • the information in DNA molecules is used to make proteins
  • these are the basis of living things
  • form structural material
  • and enzymes that control the reaction by which other parts of the organism are made
