As air temperatures rise the water in the ocean is warmer and so expands

Stop long shore drift from happening which means sediment is deprived further down the coastline

How does dredging affect coastline?
Dredging is the act of removing slit and other material from the bottom of the sea
It is a routine necessity in waterways around the world because sedimentation gradually fills channels and harbours

Different areas of the coasts are protected as they are prioritised with certain future implants
How does development impact the coastline?
It will not look natural and takes away the natural features of the coastline which takes away tourists from the beach

Long shore drift occurs in swanage bay taking sediment from the headlands and transporting them to the bay
How is swanage bay being affected by human processes
As swanage bay is getting attraction by tourists, there would be hotels and restaurants which are in competition to attract more tourists than the beach

The sea level will affect places like the maldives which are only above the sea level meaning the sea will over take the land

Over the past 25 years an increase of 0.2C per decade has been observed meaning it will cause sea levels to rise even further

Explain how groynes and sea walls work?
Groynes: long out stretched wooden equipment that stops sediment from passing preventing long shire drift
Sea wall: a sea wall is a form of coastal defences constructed to take the wave energy out to sea meaning less erosion but this wave energy can be taken somewhere down the shore
Shat is the difference between hard and soft engineering? Which is best?
Hard engineering options tend to be expensive as they have a high impact on the landscape or environment
Soft engineering is relatively cheap and can sometimes fit in with the environment and still look natural
Soft engineering is better for looks of the environment with helping it but hard engineering is better for doing its job for the environment
What is strategic realignment and which areas might be left to erode?
This is when the government decide what certain areas of coastline are kept based on their future affect on the economy eg an oil or gas station will be kept and looked after whereas useless farmland will be left to erode and given to a more useful purpose
