How many thermocouples are used to measure Reactor Vessel metal temperature?
There are 6 total thermocouples.
Where are the thermocouples located that measure Reactor Vessel metal temperature?
1) Two measure Vessel Top Head Flange temperature.
2) Two measure Vessel Shell Flange temperature.
3) Two measure Vessel Bottom Head Region temperature.
What Vessel Metal Temperature will cause an alarm on P680?
Any Vessel metal temperature less than 85F will alarm on P680. The concern is excessive cooldown and brittle fracture.
What type of level detector is used to measure Reactor Pressure Vessel level?
Differential pressure detectors are used to indicate Vessel level by measuring level in the Downcomer.
Where does the Reference leg of the Differential Pressure level detector tap into the Reactor Vessel?
The Reference Leg taps into the RPV steam volume through a Condensing Pot.
What type of temperature compensation do our level instruments use?
NONE, that is why there are five ranges of level instruments.
Where does the Variable leg of the Differential Pressure level detector tap into the Reactor Vessel?
The Variable Leg taps into the Downcomer.
What system provides the water for the Reference Leg Purge?
Control Rod Drive Hydraulics
Do all of the Level Ranges use Reference Leg Purge?
Shutdown and Upset don’t use Reference Leg Purge, but all other ranges do.
What is the level offset between the Downcomer and actual Vessel level inside the Core Shroud? What causes this phenomenon?
The level offset between the Downcomer and the Core Shroud is approximately 5 inches at 100% power. This occurs due to the higher pressure inside the Core Shroud caused by the two phase boiling resistance to flow.
What signals are provided by Narrow Range Level 3(178”)?
1) ADS Confirmation
2) RPS Low Level Scram
3) B33 Downshift
4) NS4 RHR Isolation
5) Setpoint Setdown
