Lecture 3 Flashcards
What is the difference between peritoneal cavity and sac
Peritoneal sac is the parietal and visceral portions of the sac, the cavity is a potential space within the sac
Describe the lesser omentum in terms of: the ligaments it is composed of, its function, and where it is derived from
Lesser omentum is derived from the ventral mesentary and functionally serves to connect the stomach and duodenum to the liver. it is composed in part by hepatogastric and heptoduodenal ligaments
What are the components of the greater omentum?
gastrocolic ligament (largest portion) + gastrosplenic ligament and gastrophrenic ligament (to diaphragm)
What does the mesentary proper do?
Anchors the majority of the small intestines to the posterior abdominal wall
What secures the final portion of the duodenum?
Suspensory ligament of trietz!
What does the mesocolon do?
Anchors the transverse colon to the posterior wall creating two compartments.
Supracolic compartment – contains stomach, liver and spleen
Infracolic compartment – contains small intestine and ascending & descending colon.
What does the falciform ligament do?
Anchors the liver to the diaphragm, separates liver into R and L lobes, and contains the round ligament of the liver
Where is the coronary ligament?
On the fucking liver, of all places.
What is the heptorenal pouch where is it located?
the lowest part of the peritoneal cavity when patient is recumbent. posterior to the right kidney
Name all of the peritoneal pouches
1) Heptorenal pouch
2) rectovesical pouch (males)
3) rectouterine pouch (females)
4) vesicouterine pouch (females)
