Atomic Structure Flashcards

1
Q

What is Millikans oil drop experiment?

A
Oil dropped through charged plates due to electric field.
X-rays are fed in.
Forces both up and down in the system.
Oil drops stay static.
Charge can be determined

Q

Explain Bohr theory

A

Lowest state of hydrogen called ground state.
Input of energy excites electron to higher energy level.
Moves to a lower level, light is released.
E2 -E1 = hv
E = hf

Q

State the three rules of quantum numbers.

A

Aufbau- fill up in order of energy, lowest first.
Hunds- filled singularly first
