Hydrogen sulfide

A

Colorless gas with the odor of rotten eggs. Heavier than air, very poisonous, corrosive, flammable, and explosive. Caused by the incomplete combustion of material from living things- wool, rubber, and hair.
Exposure causes rapid breathing, followed by complete respiratory collapse.

A

Caused by the complete oxidation of sulfur containing materials. Has an extremely irritating effect on the eyes and respiratory tract. The quantities produced by combustion are too low to be considered toxic.

A

A

On the left side of the packframe. Consisting of redundant dual path reducing systems (primary and secondary circuits), an automatic transfer valve, and over pressure relief.
The primary circuit reduces supply pressure to 100 PSI and sends it to the MMR.

What happens when the cylinder falls between 1200-1000 psi or when the primary circuit fails closed?

A

A transfer valve opens allowing the secondary circuit to function. Thus sending air at a pressure of 150psi to the MMR. The addition 50psi activates the Vibralert.

With a properly sealed face piece, the breathing regulator produces a pressure approximately .036 to .054 above atmospheric pressure.

A

All 5 lights will illuminate for 20 seconds, and must be verified each time the unit is placed in service.

A

Full- 2 green lights

1/2- Yellow light flashing slowly, once per second
1/4- Red light flashing at 10 times per second

A 5th round red light in the far right indicates Low Battery.

A

6 inches to avoid radio frequency interference(RFI), which may cause the PASS alarm to not function.

A

After 20 seconds of no motion it will pre-alarm, after an additional 10 the full alarm will sound.
*With fresh batteries full alarm can last 8 hours. 1000 hours in monitoring mode.

What are the 3 levels of damage to a composite air cylinder?

A

Level 1- cuts or scratches involving the outer surface only
Level 2- cuts or scratches that have penetrated the outer layers of plastic and cut the fiber over-wrap threads
Level 3-Cuts greater than 2 or that have exposed bare metal

Remove from service if greater then Level 1.

When using the EBSS, from which cylinder does the air flow?

A

Lowest cylinder pressure first, until depleted to less than 500psi at which time it switches to the cylinder with the higher pressure. Vibralerts will function for both when the cylinders being utilized fall below 25% (1000-1200psi)

How should a member clean and disinfect their face piece?

A

Utilizing Wescodyne Plus- 3 full pumps on the regulator side and 3 on the face side. Allow 10 minutes contact time. Rinse with cool or warm water not to exceed 110 degrees.
