Q

what are conchae?

A

They protrude airspace

  • covered with mucoperiosteum with a rich blood supply
  • warm and humidify inspired air for maximum olfactory efficiency.
  • the conchae also traps contaminates

Q

What is the sphenoethmoid recess?

A
  • its the space inferior to the wall of cranial fossas and superior surface of superior choncha.
  • site where olfactory nerves are distributed
  • where sphenoid sinus drains

Q

What are the paranasal sinuses?

A

are mucorperiosteal lined cavities in bones near nasal cavity and are distrubted into
-frontal
-sphenoidal
-ethmoidal (anterior, mid and posterior) On each side
-maxillary (virtually hollows upper jaw)
they develop with age as they are not seen in new borns.

Q

All sinuses communicate with nasal cavity

A
  • Sphenoid via sphenoethmoidal recess
  • posterior ethmoidal via superior meatus
  • all others communicate with middle meatus
