Egoistic relativism
An individuals sense of right and wrong determines there sense of morality
Problem w it: our choices do not only affect us
Social relativism
Based on a groups ideas of right and wrong
Moral pluralism happens (possibility)
Problem w it: they do not live in isolation like egoistic so they need an agreement on the way to live so they can coexist
Incommensurables pluralism
Disagreements about even the most basic moral principles which cannot be reconciled
Metaethical relativism
Skepticism about whether a universal ethic/principle exists

Ethics comes from religion and religious beliefs
Arguments against: if there’s a god there’s no need for ethics
Rebuttal: interpretation is still required , therefore ethics is needed
Buddhist: ethics are “in action”

Naturalistic
Ethics comes from our observations of the natural world and science
Avoiding “social Darwinism”
Proponents of naturalistic ethical grounding point to altruism(selfless concern for well being of others) in nature

Ethics comes from societies and observations taken from societies collectively

Deontological: insists we do the most moral thing regardless of the consequences ( Kant)
Consequentialist: insists we do whatever brings about the best outcome (Bentham)
