Knee Ligaments and Muscles Flashcards
Knee
Medial Collateral Ligament
Attachment and Function
Attaches from the medial condyle of femur to medial aspect of the tibia.
It also attaches to the medial meniscus and capsule.
It stabilises the knee by preventing anterior movement of the tibia and aids locking.
Knee
Lateral Collateral Ligament
Attachment and Function
Attaches to the lateral condyle of femur and runs to the fibular head.
It stabilises the knee by resisting lateral rotation forces of the tibia and aids locking.
Knee
Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Attachment and Function
Attaches to the (anterior and) medial part of the tibia to the (medial aspect of the) lateral femoral condyle.
It stops the femur slipping backwards.
Knee
Posterior Cruciate Ligament
Attachment and Function
Attaches from the (posterior) lateral part of the tibia onto the (anterior, lateral side of the) medial femoral condyle.
It stops the femur slipping forwards onto the tibia.
