Shoulder Ligaments and Muscles Flashcards
The superior, middle and inferior gleno-humeral ligaments
Attachments and Function
Three bands, which runs with the joint capsule from the glenoid fossa to the anatomical neck of the humerus. They act to stabilise the anterior aspect of the joint.
Coracohumeral ligament
Attachments and Function
Attaches the base of the coracoid process to the greater tubercle of the humerus.
It supports the superior part of the joint capsule.
Transverse humeral ligament
Attachments and Function
Spans the distance between the two tubercles of the humerus.
It holds the tendon of the long head of the biceps in the intertubercular groove.
Flexors
Deltoid (anterior part)
Pectoralis major
Biceps brachii (long head)
Coracobrachialis (weak)
Deltoid (anterior part)
Attachments
Anterior border of lateral third of clavicle to deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Pectoralis major
Attachments
Clavicular attachment - sternal half of anterior surface of clavicle
Sternocostal attachment - body of sternum, upper 6 costal cartilages
To lateral lip of intertubercular groove of the humerus
Biceps Brachii Long Head
Attachments
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula to the posterior part of the radial tuberosity
Coracobrachialis
Attachments
Apex of coracoid process to middle, medial border of humerus
Abductors
Supraspinatous
Deltoid (posterior part)
Supraspinatous
Attachments
Supraspinous fossa to shoulder capsule and greater tuberosity of humerus
Deltoid (posterior part)
Attachments
Lower edge of crest of spine of scapula to deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Nerve Supply
Axillary, suprascapular and lateral pectoral
Capsular Pattern
Lateral rotation
Abduction
Medial rotation
