The Ear Flashcards
1
Q
what happens when sound reaches your eardrum?
A
it vibrates
2
Q
where are the vibrations passed onto?
A
tiny bones called ossicles, through semicircular canals and to the cochlea
3
Q
what does the cochlea do with the vibrations?
A
turns them into electrical signals which get sent to the brain
4
Q
what does the brain do with the signals?
A
interprets signals as sounds of different pitches and volumes, depending on their frequency and intensity
5
Q
a higher frequency sound wave means..
A
a higher pitch
6
Q
how is human hearing limited?
A
- by the size and shape of the eardrum
- the structure of ear parts that vibrate to transmit the sound wave
