Q

In Manx, what do we mean by a ‘genitive’ form?

A

Genitive form nouns are used to modify the meaning of another word. For example, cleaysh means ‘ear’, and it has a genitive form; cleayshey, which you can think of as meaning ‘of an ear’, or ‘of ears’.

Example:

  • fainaghyn cleayshey* earrings
  • Cass* means ‘foot’, its genitive form is coshey.
  • bluckan coshey -* football
