6.6 - Pipes and Unions Flashcards
(34 cards)
The dimension of rigid and flexible pipes are determined by what.
External diameter and wall thickness
Low ( suction/return ), medium and high pressure lines operate at what pressure
Low = suction/return Medium = under 1500 PSI High = over 1500 PSI
All pipes are marked with what information
Part number, inspection stamp, test stamp and date of manufacture.
Pipes and hoses are identified by
By a colour, symbol and code system based on the ATA 100 system
Hydraulics are identifiable by what colours and symbol
Blue and yellow and black circles
Air conditioning is identified by what colours and symbol
Brown and gray
Fuel is identified by what colours and symbol
Red and black stars with 4 points
De-icing is identified by what colours and symbols
Grey and black triangles
Lubrication is identified by what colour and symbol
Yellow and black cubes/squares
Fire protection is identified by what colour and symbol
Brown and black cubes/squares slanted at a 45 degree angle
2 types of flareless fitting are
MS and Harrison
Difference between Harrison and MS is
MS is moulded and Harrison has a ball push fitting.
Permaswaging is
A repair for a damaged pipe but is permanent but can be done quickly and in situ
Flare type fitting angle
Standard 37 degrees, vehicle type flares 45 degrees
How To rectify a leak in flare type fittings
Dismantle and inspect matting surfaces thoroughly for debris and damage. Do not over tighten the joint upon reassembly.
Types of flare.
Single and double.
Types of single flare.
Impact and roll type
Tubing dimension, for a double flare should be
3/8 or smaller
A double flare gives what characteristics to a pipe
Makes it more durable and resistant to the shearing effect of torque
Low, medium and high pressure hoses operate at what pressures.
Low = up to 600 PSI Medium = up to 3000 PSI High = 3000 PSI and above
Lay lines are
Coloured lines that run from end to end and should be straight on the pipe once installed and not twisted.
Hoses are used in areas such as
Areas with moving parts and high vibration
Slack on hoses must compensate for what and by how much
Must compensate for a reduction in length and increase in diameter when under pressure so must have 2 to 4% slack.
Hose identification has what information on it.
Manufactures info referring to the spec number, hose size and length in inch or feet, internal diameter.
