What is organisational structure?
The way in which a business is organised
What is the span of control?
The number of employees for whom a manager is responsible
What are the levels of hierarchy?
The number of levels or layers in a business organisation
What is delayering?
Removing a layer/tier of management, usually to reduce costs
Delegation
The more delegation in an organisation, the bigger the span of control will be and the wider organisational structure
What is Empowerment?
Giving employees responsibility for the tasks they perform
What is an organisational system?
When the business is split into specialist areas which operate together to make the business function efficiently
What is organisation by product?
The company is centred around their recognisable individual products, they are known as profit centres
What is an organistic structure?
A flat structure with a large span of control with each manager being responsible for many employees
Mechanistic structure?
A bureaucratic, vertical structure with a narrow span of control
Decentralised structure?
The decision making process is delegated and undertaken on a regional product basis
