What does the CPU stand for?
Central Processing Unit
What are the three main parts of the CPU?
The Control unit, The Arithmetic Logic Unit, The cache
What does the CPU do?
Processes all of the data and instructions
What are the three main factors that determine the CPU Power?
Clock speed, number of cores and Cache size
What does the control unit do?
Executes program instructions by following the fetch-decode- execute cycle
What does the ALU do?
handles all the calculations in the CPU
What are the characteristics of Cache memory?
very fast, low capacity, very expensive
What does Cache memory do?
Stores regularly used data so that the cpu can access it quickly
What is the Von Neumann Design?
runs programs stored in the memory. Programs consist of data which are stored in memory addresses
