Definition Recap Flashcards
Scientific method
Logical process of problem solving applied in all sciences
Hypothesis
A testable prediction of the relationship between two or more events or characteristics
Statistically significant
The probability of some result from a test occurring by chance
Independent variable
The variable that is systematically manipulated, changed or varied by the researcher in order to assess its effect
Dependent variable
The variable that shows the effect of the independent variable
Operationalised
An operationalised variable means how it is measured and more specific
Extraneous variable
A variable other than the IV that cause changes in the value from the DV
Controlled variable
Once the extraneous variable and the potential effects are removed from the experiment
Confounding variable
A variable other than the IV that has a systematic effect on how he value of the DV
Population
The groups of participants we wish To draw conclusions from
Sample
The selected group for the chosen participants from the population
Random sampling
a procedure in which every member of the population has an equal chance of being picked
Stratified sampling
Ensures that the variable is distributed within the population
Experiment group
The group from the population that are exposed to the IV
Control group
The group that does not receive the IV
