Who remained loyal why? What were they called?
The people that remained loyal was the United Empire loyalists. The loyalists were people from different countries that had many reasons for opposing the war.
Why were the loyalists loyal?
- Some did not believe in using violence to settle disputes.
- Some had business tied with the British.
- Some were in military regiments that had fought on the British side.
- Some were enslaved African Americans seeking freedom in Canada or a more welcoming society.
- Some were first nations people who had lost their land to Americans.

Who fought, reasons why?
Britain and the United States were the two groups that fought.
- They fought because Britain was at war with France. It stopped Americans from trading with the French.
- The British were kidnapping the First Nations in the struggle for land.
- Some Americans wanted to take over Britain’s colony.
Who rebelled, why? What were they called?
The Americans hoped to rebel on the Canadians. They thought the Canadians would see them as liberators. The Canadians are the Francophone in New France.
What was the end result? (1783)
The end result was like other first nations, the Anishinaabe did not believe that the land was something people bought and sold. They were simply giving the newcomers permission to use the land. But before they new it was to late and was not a fair deal.
Who was Laura Secord?
Laura Secord was a Canadian that was know for walking 32 miles out of american occupied territory in 1813 to warm the British forces of an in depending american attack.
How did the war of 1812 end?
It ended in deadlock. The treaty of Ghent was signed at the end of December in 1814.
Who won? Who lost? (The war of 1812)
The American’s viewed it as they won the war. The people from upper and lower Canada viewed it as the opposite. The aboriginals lost in the war of 1812.
The significance of the 49th parallel.
It was designed after the treaty was signed. It acts like a international boundary in the pacific northwest.
Why did it occur? (The great migration)
The main reason why the great migration happend is because:
- The population was growing rapidly.
- Jobs were scarce.
- Farmers were being forced of their land.
- Poverty and hunger were common, Ireland suffered a terrible famine.
Push/Pull Factors
Push: Pushing them away from the country.
Pull: Luring them into the country.
Who migrated? Where did they go? Where were they coming from? (The great migration)
Britain and Ireland were the two groups that migrated they went to the ports of Halifax, saint john’s, and Quebec City. They were coming from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Underground Railroad.
A network of safe houses for the slaves to stay in during the day. These people that lived in the safe houses would take care of the slaves and then take them to the next safe house with out the slaves being seen.
What were the two groups called. (Rebellion of 1837)
They were called patriots and reformers.
Who were their leaders? (Rebellion of 1837)
Papineau and William Lyon Mackenzie were the leaders.
Where did the leader go after the rebellion?
The leaders fled back to united states.
