Coagulation Flashcards

1
Q

Primary hemostasis

A
platelet adhesion (platelets stick to damaged endothelium- exposed subendothelial collagen with vwf, platelets bind to vwf)

Q

secondary hemostasis

A

extrinsic pathway- VII (tissue factor, normally sequestered, expressed on fibroblasts, activated endothelium and platelets)

intrinsic- hmwk, pk, XII, XI, IX, VIII

both lead to X, V, II, I (common pw)

XIII- fibrin stabilization

Q

screening for primary hemostasis

A

platelet count- if low cannot form platelet aggregation

bleeding time

vwd can lead to prolonged bleeding time
