Q

Genital Warts

A
HPV (Human Papilloma virus)
Infection (6 & 11 strains)
Skin to skin contact
Multiple benign lesions
Genital and anorectal region (can appear on other regions)
~2-8 months incubation
Most asymptomatic & transient
Tx: no cure
wart removal (topical, cryotherapy, Sx)
Monitor for CA (type 16 &18 strains)

Q

Syphilis (bacterial)

A

Treponema pallidum infection
Spread via contact with lesions (portal of entry is needed to infect & defenses are impaired)
Also through placenta (after 16 weeks)

Complications:
blindness, paralysis, cardiac problems, death?
well defined stages

Q

Genital Herpes - Mnfts

A

Local: burning, painful vesicles at site
Systemic: fever, myalgia

Can be subclinical (no appearance of related signs of infection > worsens detection)

Anatomical differences:
Females: higher surface area, so more prone to contract; also less visible.
Males: penis and scrotum; lesions are visible and external

Q

Syphilis (bacterial): stages

A
1º Stage:
multiple lesions = chancre at exposure site
can escape dectection
~4 weeks post exposure
heals in 3-4 weeks
regional lymphadenopathy
2nd Stage: (up to 6 months)
if untreated 6-8 weeks post infection
patches on mucous membranes (tongue)
maculopapular rash on palms and soles
flat papules
generalized lymphadenopathy
fever, malaise
latent period (30 years) >>> NO CLINICAL SIGNS but pt is seropositive

3rd Stage:
