  2. mycoplasma pneumoniae - atypical

  • Staph aureus (28%)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa (21.8%)
  • Klebsiella species (9.8%)

What causes severe disease?

A

RNA sequence, viral load
Host - Environment, DNA
Epithelial damage + bacteria
Mediators - cell stress

Basically:
Highly pathogenic strain
Absence of prior immunity
Weakened host immune response
