What is Macbeth about?

A

Macbeth is a tragedy by William Shakespeare; it is thought to have been first performed in 1606. It shows the power of corruption and guilt with ambition and Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth become king and queen of Scotland but through murder and the supernatural.

What happens in Act 1 scene 1?

A

The witches meet to plan their encounter with Macbeth. They them decide to meet later on the Scottish heath that Macbeth will cross on his way home from the battle

What happens in Act 1 scene 2?

A

King Duncan along with his sons Malcom and Donalbain receive a battle report by a wounded captain. They find out that they were betrayed in the battle of England and Norway by the thane of Cawdor Macdonald.

Act 1 scene 3?

A

The witches wait for Macbeth. They tell Macbeth that he will become King and tell Banquo that his sons will be kings. Both Macbeth and Banquo are shocked at what they here and dismiss the ‘weird sisters’.
Ross and Angus who are also thanes arrive to Inform Macbeth that he has been appointed thane of Cawdor by the king.
Macbeth writes to his wife telling her the good news

Act 1 scene 4?

A

At Duncan’s Castle Duncan thanks Macbeth and Banquo.
Duncan announces that his son Malcom will be the prince of Cumberland and is therefore in line to become king.
Macbeth leaves early to prepare for Duncan’s arrival with ambitious thoughts troubling his mind.

Act 1 scene 5?

A

At Macbeth’s castle Lady Macbeth receives the great news through his letter. However she questions if he has the qualities to be king if he is bold and courageous enough to be king.
She hears the news that Duncan is coming to the castle and plans and persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan

A

Duncan and his noblemen arrive at Macbeth’s castle to receive a warm welcome by Lady Macbeth

A

Macbeth steps away from the party as his conscience gets the better of him and decides not to kill Duncan.
He breaks the news to Lady Macbeth and she plays with his emotions questions his masculinity and he once again agrees to kill Duncan.
