Q

Method for RP ‘Rate of Photosynthesis’

A

1) cut 8-10cm pondweed place it in boiling tube (water and sodium bicarbonate)
2) record temperature
3) place small beaker into the larger beaker
4) wait for a steady flow of bubbles and record how many bubbles in 2 minutes
5) adjust the distance keeping the water temperature the same

12
Q

Why does glucose turn into starch?

A
  • glucose soluble in water effecting osmosis and water balance
  • starch is insoluble, has no effect
  • lot of starch stored up in the cells

13
Q

Why does Glucose make amino acids?

A
  • built into proteins which can be used for enzymes (eg. Energy for respiration)
  • built into lipids for energy to strengthen the cell walls

Q

How does light effect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • more light, increased rate

- opens stomata allows more carbon dioxide in and more oxygen to leave

15
Q

How does temperature effect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • increased temperature, increase rate
  • heat acts as a catalysts for all chemical reactions
  • enzymes (used for photosynthesis) denature around 40-50 degrees

16
Q

How does Co2 Concentration effect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • increase levels, increased rate

- can be limiting factor as in the night plants respire not photosynthesise, in the morning most of it gets used up

17
Q

How does Chlorophyll in the leaf effect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • less chlorophyll, slowly the rate of photosynthesis

- in the chloroplasts, which absorb the light

18
Q

Uses of the Garden Greenhouse

A
  • can electronically control the limiting factors for max photosynthesis and growth
  • bigger crop intake per week for businesses meaning much more profitable (depending business size)
19
Q

Hydroponics

A

When plants are grown in water for the exact correct intake or nutrients and minerals from the soil
