Q

describe the flow of the CSF

A

lateral ventricle–>3rd ventricle–>4th ventricle –> subarachnoid space–>arachnoid granulations–>venous sinuses

Q

describe non-comm hydrocephalus

A

flow of CSF in ventricular system obstructed –> increased pressure in ventricles (still making CSF)

Q

describe communicating hydrocephalus

A

can’t absorb CSF –> flows freely in ventricular system though

Q

describe the BBB

A
  1. arachnod barrier–>tight junctions, and one-way valve arachnoid granulations
  2. blood-CSF barrier –> at level of choroid epi cells; also have tight junctions and are fenestrated (stuff can leave but not get in)
  3. the BBB proper–> barrier between brain ECF.tissue and capillaries; tight junctions; astrocutes help maintain tight junctions

Q

what are the actual spaces in the brain?

A
  • between the periosteal and meningeal layers
  • sagittal fissure, separate the two cerebral hemis
  • transverse fissure –> separates occipital lobe and cerebellum
  • venous sinuses
  • subarachnoid space
