Britain and France had extensive overseas empires
What did the kaiser aim to do
Aimed to make Germany an empire of their own. Wanted to transform Germany into a global power (weltpoltik)
Who did Germany take over
Africa, Togo, Cameroon, south west Africa and east Africa
What did the kaiser want to do to protect the new empire and who did he want to rival. What did he believe this would do to the empire
Expansion of the German navy and wanted to rival Britain’s navy as he was a highly militaristic figure.
Thought a strong navy would also help expand the empire
What was introduced in 1898 and what was the result of this
A series of naval laws which saw it increase in size
What else did the kaiser expand and how did he do it? What was the issue with this?
The army and taxes raised to fund this but made a problem of debt to German government
What was the Weimar Republic
A voting system used in Germany to elect members of reichstag. This would win you seats and the more seats you had the easier it was to get their point across

Elected every 7 years controlled military, in crisis he could rule on his own

Acted as prime minister, chosen by president, dealt with day to day running of country. Must have support of at least half the reichstag to introduce new laws

Decide who becomes mps and president, all men and women over 28 could vote, guaranteed basic freedoms and was very democratic

Communist
Workers should have power and rule the country as collection of councils. Should be equality and no big difference in wealth.
Change welcome, these views should be spread worldwide
Anti- right wing
What were the right wing beliefs
Nazis
Strong leaders should rule over the people
Should be major differences between classes and races
Country should be strong,powerful with large empire
Change not welcome. Anti-left wing
