Q

Why did the Frankfort parliament fail?

A
  • from the start it lacked legal legitimacy
  • lacked real muscle. Unable to collect taxation, it hand no financial power. Nor did it have any army
  • it was wholly dependent on the goodwill of the member states of the confederation, and their loyalty to the parliament was far from guaranteed
  • the parliament was not in tune with the views of the working class
