How do you measure the energy content of a food?

A

Use dry food as it burns well it air.
Weigh the food, find the mass.
Place 20cm3 of water in a boiling tube supported by a clamp stand.
Measure the temp. of the water.
Spear food on the end of a mounted needle, hold it on a bunsen burner until it catches fire.
Once it is alight hold the burning food underneath the tube of water so that the flame heats up the water.
Continue this until the food will no longer burn.
4.2 joules of emergy raise one gram of water by 1°C.
1cm3 of water has a mass of 1g.
