  2. deforestation: rainforests are logged for hardwoods or to make way for agriculture
  3. desertification: over farming the land can exhaust and ruin the soil - turns to desert

Neo-liberal theory argues that countries need to calculate the costs and benefits of any development strategy and if environmental damage is too high then that strategy shouldn’t be pursued
