science exam - biology Flashcards

to pass the frickin exam

1
Q

what are characteristics of plant cells (8)

A

large vacuoles, many chloroplasts, few mitochondria, cell wall on outside, cell membranes inside cell wall. ramen squiggles are chromosomes. no flagellum, and no centrioles.

Q

what are characteristics of animal cells (6)

A

animal cells have a cell membrane, no chloroplasts, small vacuoles, some flagellum, and centrioles. they are roundish, where plant cells are square.

16
Q

what is mitosis

A

the division of the nucleus

17
Q

what is interphase

A

the state that a cell is in when it is not undergoing mitosis or cytokenesis… when it is not dividing.

18
Q

what happens during prophase

A

centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, nucleolus and nuclear membrane beak down like me and dissapear, hromatin condense and bcome chromosomes

19
Q

what happens during metaphase

A

chromosomes line up in the center of the cell and spindle fibers grab onto them

20
Q

what happens during anaphase

A

spindle fibers pull sister chromatids apart like ICE agents pulling immigrant children from their families. sister chromosomes become daughter chromosomes.

21
Q

what happens during telophase

A

chromosomes uncoil back into chromatin. cytokenesis takes place, and cell becomes two.

22
Q

how does the digestive system work

A

first, it goes through the mouth and is digested by mechanical and chemical digestion. then it is pushed down the esophagus and into the stomach where it is broken down by enzymes and bacteria is killed by hydrochloric acid. then it goes through the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed. then it goes through the large intestine where water and bio salts are removed. then it goes through the rectum and anus to poop.

23
Q

how does the circulatory system work with the breathing system (cellular respiration)

A

oxygen is breathed into your lungs, where the oxygen becomes filtered into the bloodstream through avleoli that surround capilaries, which bring the blood to the heart in veins, before it gets pumped through the body from the heart in arteries. as the blood travels through th body it exchanges the oxygen for carbon dioxide, through the alveoli, before it gets pumped back into the heart in veins, finally returning to the lungs to restart the cycle.

24
Q

what is the difference between climate and weather

A

weather is the temp and clouds and stuff for one day, climate is an average temp and precipitation for a region over the year.

25
Q

what are some impacts of climate change

A

ice is melting, more floods and forest fires, sea level rising, droughts. :(

26
Q

good luck on the exam, i mightve missed some cards

A

tganks

27
Q

what is gas exchange?

A

oxygenated blood in the arteries goes to the capillaries and goes from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. the deoxygenated blood in the veins does the same thing.

28
Q

what systems work together?

A

respiratory and circulatory system, digestive and muscular, nervous system and digestive system’s involuntary muscles.

29
Q

what is the greenhouse effect?

A

when the sun’s warmth is trapped in the lower atmosphere and the excess gases like CO2 keep the heat and make the globe warmer.

30
Q

what is the temperature of the earth?

A

about 14ºC

31
Q

how much more can the earth’s temperature increase?

A

2ºC

32
Q

what is the paris agreement?

A

the paris agreement is an agreement within the united nations that deals with greenhouse gas emissions

33
Q

what is the international kyoto protocol?

A

an international agreement linked to the united nations on climate change.

34
Q

what would the temperature of the earth be if there was no climate change?

A

near -18 degrees
