What is a ratio?
A comparison of two quantities by division.
What does it mean for two ratios to be equivalent?
They express the same relationship between numbers.
How do you find a unit rate?
Divide the first quantity by the second to find the amount per 1 unit.
What is a real-world example of a ratio?
3 apples for every 2 oranges.
What is a negative number?
A number less than zero, often used to show loss or below ground level.
Where do positive and negative numbers appear on a number line?
Positive numbers go to the right of zero; negative numbers go to the left.
What happens when you multiply a negative number by a positive number?
The product is negative.
What is the absolute value of a number?
The distance from zero, always positive.
What is a variable?
A letter that stands for a number in an expression or equation.
What does it mean to evaluate an expression?
To find the value by plugging in numbers for variables.
What’s the difference between an expression and an equation?
An equation has an equal sign; an expression does not.
What is the distributive property?
a(b + c) = ab + ac
What is the formula for the area of a triangle?
A = ½ × base × height
How do you find the volume of a rectangular prism?
V = length × width × height
What is a net of a 3D shape?
A 2D pattern that can be folded into a 3D figure.
What is a coordinate plane?
A grid with x and y axes used to locate points with ordered pairs.
What is a statistical question?
A question that can be answered by collecting data and has variability.
What is the mean of a data set?
The average; add all numbers and divide by how many there are.
What does the median tell us?
The middle value when the data is ordered from least to greatest.
What is an outlier?
A value much higher or lower than the others in a data set.
