What does the Church say about Life and Dignity of the Human Person?
That human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society
Name two offenses to human dignity?
Abortion, euthanasia, cloning, embryonic stem cell research, the death penalty, war, terrorism and enslavement, etc.
How can we promote life from conception to natural death?
Put Christ first in everything, promote peace, stand against evil, celebrate life’s milestones, love first, hold all life sacred
What does the Church say about the importance of family?
Marriage and the family are the central social institutions that must be supported and strengthened.
We believe that people have a right and a duty to participate in society; what should we be coming together to do and seek?
The common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable

That marriage is what God intended from the beginning.

One another, our families, and society

How might we get involved in promoting human rights?
Prayer, legislation, voting, get involved at local levels, say something
Are Catholics obligated by the Church to get involved in political issues? If yes, how, if not, why not?
Yes. Through voting and dialogue.
What is the origin of all of our rights?
Natural Law
What rights would you advocate for and why?
Anti-abortion, anti-death penalty, anti-racism, etc.
What does the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable mean?
We are to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first
What is one way we can join the support in helping those in need?
Ensuring our decisions do not make things worse for the poor
What must we be concerned with in understanding the dignity of work and rights of workers?
The economy must serve people. That work is more than a way to make a living; it is a form of continuing participation in God’s creation.
What is the expectation of the Church when it comes to employment?
We have a right to work. Right for opportunities. Right to a just wage
Where are the dignity of work or the rights of workers violated in our community and around the world?
Where there is slavery, sweatshops, low pay, etc.
How can our purchasing choices impact whether others’ rights are violated or protected?
Buy products from China or Africa, ie. Nike shoes or diamonds

- A principle way that we can exercise self expression
- To fulfill our material needs.
- Enables us to contribute to the community.
What is solidarity?
To commit oneself to the common good, stand with those who suffer

Unity and Love
What is the principle of Solidarity?
To bear each other’s suffering
Who are the “Good Samaritans” in our community today?
Those who help the suffering; the homeless, disenfranchised, etc.
